DAY SEVEN (31st Oct 2015)
Leon and I had our breakfast just below our apartment, traditional Taiwanese breakfast are the best! Love and miss it so much :(
Headed to Taipei Main station; Q-Square and Underground shopping mall, initially had the idea to spend time shopping there but there wasn't much that catches our eyes. Lots of shop selling shoes but the things sold were almost identical everywhere else and most of which were not what I like. I bought one cobbler-like shoes (scroll way down) for TWD 200 (S$8.70) cause I found it cute haha! Did not buy anything else after that, except some dried fruits at a random pop up stall.
Then we took the train and headed up to Tam Sui station! And walked along 淡水老街 - Tam Sui Old Street~ we were munching all the way! So much interesting food!!
My first and last bubble tea in Taiwan haha! Not sure why I did not buy any bubble tea while in Taiwan :(
Followed the sign to 淡水老街.
Beautiful scenery and super cooling weather!
Wolverleon #handsome
Quail eggs!
Muay chee~ below than average.
The muay chee tasted like pre-made kind and quite hard to chew. Saddd
Roe sausage
Bought quite a few packets of 阿婆铁蛋 - Ah Po Iron Eggs and fish crackers.
现烤蛋糕 - Old School Sponge Cake.
This is the BOMB!!!
Only sells sponge cake which is baked and sold on the spot. Two flavours to choose from: 原味 “original” or 起司 “cheese”. The cakes are sold at a pretty affordable price, a portion equivalent to a size of a brick slab goes for NT 80 (original) and NT 100 (cheese), which is about S$3.50 and S$4.30 respectively. The cheese flavoured is the most popular one! Hence, the long long queue!
The sponge cake is really soft and bouncy, piping hot and the aroma~ so so good! Definitely a "MUST-TRY" when you're there!
Original sponge cake
Cheese sponge cake.
Bought a few packets of instant assorted tea cubes and left for our last night market; 士林夜市 - Shihlin night market! One of the largest and most popular night market, the crowd that night was pretty cray.
Take the train from Tamsui station down to Jiantan station, then follow the exit/ people out and the night market is just opp the station.
We did not eat anything much at Shihlin night market as the queues for the street foods are cray! So many people and its so so crowded. Leon and I spent closed to 1.5hrs at the 3 storeys high Nike store haha! He bought two pairs of Jordans while I got one :P
So disappointed with this 豪大大鸡排 - Hot Star Large Fried chicken! Had a few bites and we threw it away. The seasoning was so bland and it was so dry~ Please try other store brands of fried chicken except this!
卤味 - Lu Wei
Quite a popular dish in Taiwan. Forever seeing a queue whenever I see a Lu wei shop.
My colleague have been telling me to try this when I am there but was kind of skeptical about, because I am not sure how to order and how the taste will be like. So, on our second last day, I decided to try and order it! Actually, the ordering is pretty simple, just like SG's yong tau foo! Take a small basket, put your food of liking in it. There's a huge selection of meat, tofu, vegetables, noodles, etc. Pass it to the seller and they will chop into small portion, add some savoury sauce or soup (if you want) and preserved vegetables.
It was so so good! Definitely gonna buy this everyday when I am back in Taiwan haha!
Heard that 猪血糕 - Mi xue gao, which means blood cake (a squarish black block) that is made up from pig's blood, is the most popular dish in Lu wei but then... I don't dare to try! Maybe next time.
Ended our second last night with Lu Wei and cup noodles from 7-11.
Leon's collection of shoes.
My collection of shoes hehe!
DAY EIGHT (1st Nov 2015)
Met up with the fam around noon and went to this place that my colleague recommended me. She said that I have to dine at there and I would love it :O And I am so thankful that we went!!
品田牧場 - Pin Tian Mu Chang. Address: 台北市萬華區桂林路1號4樓 (Inside a shopping mall)
A Japanese restaurant that is specialized in pork cutlet and curry. The waiting time is quite long, so best to make reservation beforehand! Highly recommend this place to all pork lovers! So far, its the best and fanciful pork cutlet that I have ever eaten in my life. The service was great, waiter was very patient with our orders and most importantly, quality of the food and pricing were so worthy!
Home-made pork cutlet sauce. Seven spices seasoning. Sesame sauce.
We ordered 4 sets of TWD 338 (S$14.70), and its inclusive of appetizer, main dish, side dish, drink and desserts each. So nice, cheap and affordable! Where to find in SG?!
FIRST: Crush the sesame seeds to 70% powder (not 100% crushed)
SECOND: Add 2 scoopfuls of their home-made pork cutlet sauce!
And OMG, ITS THE BESTTTT SAUCE EVER!!!
Put whatever pork cutlet into this sauce, eat it and be WOW-ed.
Appetizer. Together with their home-made sesame sauce is the best combi!
Pork cutlet with curry sauce
Spicy pork cutlet with fruits (Kiwi and mango)
Pizza pork cutlet
Cuttlefish flakes pork cutlet
Free dish from the restaurant. Not sure what is this but tasted good!
Desserts time!
Not sure why the desserts took quite long to come out though.
From top left: Black soybean matcha tea, Matcha ice cream, Fruit tea, Yuzu yogurt (LOVE!) and Matcha coffee.
Leon and I separated with the fam, while they went to the 24hrs Carrefour (Yes, inside the same mall), both of us headed back to XMD and do some last minute shopping to kill time before our flight back to Sg.
Loves drinking papaya milk shake in Taiwan haha!
Trying to spend all our Taiwan notes. Bought some Godiva chocs to enjoy while in the plane!
That's all for our trip!
Had a really enjoyable trip together with Leon and his relatives. Finally got to mark Taiwan off my checklist! Glad to experience and know Taiwanese culture, people, gourmet food and attractions.
I am definitely heading back to visit other parts of Taiwan next year! :)
